A special virtual edition of The One Truthiness, exploring race in an American Jewish context. As Be’chol Lashon says in their mission: “Jews are a multicultural people who have lived around the world for millennia. We help establish the language and experience of diversity as an integral part of Jewish identity. Jewish wisdom has much to contribute to cultural competence—the ability to ask questions and navigate difference. Race and ethnicity are important elements in shaping Jewish identity and expression in the 21st century. We cannot be truly effective in impacting social and racial justice until we address race inside the Jewish community.”

The One Truthiness is a participatory performance series featuring a painting created in melted wax on glass set to a story read by you. The text is constructed of first-person quotes of Black and white lived experiences, illuminating our best intentions and where we bump into each other — providing a snapshot of this moment in time, what we desire, and where our sticking points are.

Every presentation includes a post-performance conversation, where after speaking others words, you are invited to speak your own.

The One Truthiness claims that we are all in the world together, even when we live in worlds with different rules — and leaves the conclusions to you.

Hold others’ words in your mouths while you see something you’ve never seen before.

Details

Rated PG. Highly recommended parents and kids participate together from the same device. Children have participated as young as 6.

This will be an intimate Zoom experience with a post-show conversation that is as important as the art. Join in creating something together.

Timing: 15 minutes building community. 60 minutes performance. 45 minutes discussion.

Participants will need to read aloud in English from the screen. You can bow out as needed. Please find a quiet environment to attend.
