The One Truthiness 2020 — TRUST

After the murder of George Floyd in 2020 and during the COVID-19 pandemic, we created a fully-participatory Zoom version. Despite the very different sense of connection, participants from all over stayed on for the post-show conversation for up to 2 hours beyond the one-hour performance.

Why, despite all the cycles of change to address racism, is it still so hard? Many White people were expressing concern at the pushback they experienced when stepping up to protest. Why are White people surprised by the lack of trust by people of color, Black people in particular and the persistent ubiquity of racist experience BIPOC face on a daily basis? What does it take to build TRUST?

A computer screengrab. Video in the upper left of the painter behind the glass, white brushstrokes on the glass. Under the video is text "Now, all of a sudden, the ground may be shifting." Along the right are the video participants.

The designated readers each received a reader number. This image shows reader number 3. Every time a “3” appears, that person would read the text.
